Had no problem with McIntosh gear, even the MVP891 was already there. The equipment database is huge & it is unlikely that your model is not in there. Your configuration is always kept in the cloud on Logitech's servers.

You can create you own icons for your favorites or I recommend downloading from Http://Here you will find all of your pay tv icons which is just as easy to load into your remote as posting an image on AA.

you can even get a IR to Bluetooth adapter for your PS3. It has RF blasting too, so you can assign devices to either RF or IR. Am I missing something? Why does everyone seem to use more expensive, more difficult remotes? They give you the software, very easy to program and easily changeable when you switch equipment. I have a couple of Logitech remotes, Harmony One model. The heck with Universal and their attitude. My Philips TSU7500, manufactured in Belgium, works beautifully, programs easily, has learning capabilities, has a bright color LCD touch screen, and is easy to use. Not to mention $800 is an absurd price for a remote that costs them $50.00 at best to manufacture, box and ship (from China would be my guess). I have considered buying two Universal Remotes, but their attitude about exclusivity is bull. What is "Universal" about this remote if it doesn't work right out of the box with end user input? That anyone who pays $800.00 for a "Universal" remote has to hire some schlock for another $200.00 just to get the remote to work with your gear is totally ridiculous. George.I quoted my earlier post because Universal Remotes policies are exactly as I outlined. While not complete, it would be a good start. I can also send you a copy of my config file.

I bought my MX980 from a dealer who provided me a link to his FTP site to download the software. Oh, and the wholesaler tells the retailer how exclusive the Universal remote is because it has to be programmed by a tech for the end user. As long as Universal keeps it difficult for a customer to program their own remote, they believe they have another revenue stream. Once you've mastered the programming, changes are a snap. In just the past six months I have reprogrammed my Philips TSU7500 three times in the home theater system due to gear changes. I don't want some damn stranger in my home to program my remote, and bill me every time I decide to make an equipment change. Like you, I change gear, and move gear to another system, etc. I learned of Universal's practice when I first began to research the better Universal remotes. Their concept has cost them at least one sale that I know. It is a stupid concept that ultimately costs them sales. Since Universal refuses to readily make available the software, there goal is to frustrate you into paying one of their retailer's "techs" to program the remote for you. I'm sure part of the pitch wholesalers use to convince retail dealers and custom installers to sell Universal remotes is how they will be able to make additional income from customer remote control programming.

By making the programming software only available to resellers and reseller techs, Universal claims they are insuring their customer's satisfaction, when what they are primarily concerned with is protecting their distribution chain. Of course the answer is NO, but darn it I've never had her patience.ĭennis.The marketing concept is to have the remote you purchased available only at select dealers with "qualified techs" to program it. It's at this point that if my mother were still here she'd say have some patience son this weekend or next does it really matter. Being thwarted like this is very frustrating.

:icon_thumbsdown:Īfter so many people giving such positive reviews I was really looking forward to setting it up this weekend.

She tells me that first I must send them a copy of my invoice along with the serial number of the remote and my contact information. So I give them a call and get a less than friendly representative that lets me know that since I'm a lowly end user I can't download the software - even though their site clearly has a place for end users to download.

Unfortunately, their form for non-professionals doesn't work. I carefully unwrap my new toy and discover they don't ship it with the software. Excellent, a fun weekend project setting it up.įast forward to today. I placed the order with Ivan and it promptly arrived earlier this week in pristine condition. The URC MX980 looked like a real winner.

Thanks to being the lucky winner of the monthly raffles, I choose to get a new remote.
